Ask anybody who came up on Jordan and the 11 comes up quick. Patent leather wrapped around a mesh upper, that low cut shape that got grown men wearing basketball shoes with a suit. The Space Jam look is the one even non sneaker people can name, tied to that mid nineties stretch when Jordan was on every screen at once. This is that same build in pre school sizing, so the young ones get the real silhouette instead of a watered down copy of it.
The 11 sits snug through the midfoot, so if the kid is between sizes, go up rather than down. Patent leather does not stretch much, but it wipes clean with a damp cloth, which matters more than anything else when these are getting worn to school every day.
