In 1985, sports photographer Chuck Kohn captured an iconic image of Michael Jordan wearing the Air Jordan 1 ‘Royal’—his personal favorite colorway. Interestingly, the Royals were the first Air Jordan 1 he selected for purchase, yet they remain the only pair from the Top 3 Retro colorways (‘Banned’ and ‘Chicago’ being the others) that he never wore in an actual NBA game. Since their original debut, the Royals have seen re-releases in 1994, 2001, 2013, and 2017.
